I have a 1994 ford f150 4x4 with the 5.8l, I recently bought it and the only issue I have might not even be an issue, but since I have never owned a ford I'm wondering what yall think. Ok here is the issue, when I put it in reverse it doesnt automatically go into reverse it waits a second and then it finally goes in. Is this just a ford thing I know on my old chevy as soon as you put it in reverse is was ready to go. any advice would be appreciated, it only has a 101000 miles on it, so i dont see a full rebuild as something it needs. maybe just a fluid and filter change, please let me know, and thank you for your time.
my 94 has this problem only on occasion and kind of randomly. one time i revved it not really thinking and at about 2500 rpm it decides to go in. i cringed for the first time that day
If the engine dies sometimes when you go in Reverse then you probably have a low ATF level and the filter fell in the pan. The transmission taking too much to go in reverse might point at some wear, a shift kit could improve that.
Nothing... You just need to take the pan down and do the work, of course taking the pan down and refilling the trans. afterwards need some procedures, but they're too complicated. Do a search for a shift kit install thread, it should be easy.
