IMO POR15 is junk, it will peel right off even if you follow the institutions. I know a few people who have also tried it and some like it and most don't.
It "stops rust" by simply starving the oxidation of air, in-turn stopping it slowing the rust.
I used it, was in happy with it as rust continued. I had then sandblasted and epoxy primed the entire bottom of the bed.

Everyone is open to their own opinion. And I think no one will disagree with you that sandblasting is the best option but not everyone can afford to do that. As for POR15 only slowing down rust.....well it should be known that you cant STOP rust you can only slow it down. So that is all I was looking for.
Overall I was happy with POR15 it is holding up well. But I will say you have to follow the instructions if you dont then it will not work good.
Planning to do this to my long bed F250, thanks for all the information. Have you had any rust from the open ends of the tubing? I'm wondering about plugging the ends or drilling a few holes on the bottom side of each tube... any thoughts?
I used
Front support - 3" tall x 2" wide x 6' long
2nd support - 2 1/2" tall x 2 1/2" wide x 5' long
3rd support - 2" tall x 2" wide x 5' long
4th support - 1" tall x 2" wide by 5' long
And 1 1/2" tall x 2" wide x 1' Long (for the two spacers that sit on the frame)
I agree on not buying that kit off ebay all the steel coat me only $100 bran new and cut to size. (all the lengths given are a few inches longer than needed and will have to be cut to the right size.)

Did you ever correct the vertical misalignment of the bed to cab body lines? If so, do you recall exactly what/how many washers or spacers you used?
I am planning a major restoration job on my truck this summer, including the bed rail repair. Given my limited amount of help available, I'd like to get it right the first time, vs having to repeatedly trial fit the bed.
[QUOTE=fordtruck661;13077163]Well Im starting to get everything I will need together so far I have por15 and went and got the metal yesterday cost me about $100 for it cut to size.

Could you provide measurements for the rails you had made and the location they are to be placed?

I forgot to ask before, what about the wall thickness of the metal/ gauge? 1/8" ? 1/4" ?That could also impact the final installed height of the bed, along with determining the strength of the rails of course.

I could be wrong but I'm thinking that the metal is tubing and that tubing is measured OD and that thickness affects ID.
So i am embarking on this exact same project on my 05 Dually. The Supports look just as bad as yours did and my question is, what is the easiest to get the old supports off without putting holes in your bed floor. I tried and air chisel and that managed to put a hole in floor, a grinder seems the logical way to go but just looking for any other opinions.

Thanks.
I used a cut off wheel to cut off as much as I could and then used a grinder to grind everything off. You can see in one of the pictures that I had already cut off one of the rails.
Hey thanks for the reply, I kinda figured thats were i was headed. I'm looking to replace with the Dorman replacements, just sucks they dont offer the 5th support up in forward section of the bed. Thanks again for this post it's a big help to my project.
