Engine install attemp

Well..was out wrestling my 300/6 into the truck last night. No success and decided to call quits at 11 pm. The input shaft of my t18 just wasn't lining up right and causing a hangup every which way. Little discouraged right now. I gotta take the transmission out now and mate both out of the truck. I had an inch to go and it woulda been there!

Can be a real pain if the angles don't match.
It can be a lot easier if done outside the vehicle.
With as much room as these trucks have it's just as easy to poke them in already combined.
You can get it, just keep at it.

Thanks guys. I guess I'm not as Bummed bout having to pull the tranny..just that its another thing I gotta do just to get back to square one. All I gotta do is drop the crossmember and were good. Driveshaft is already loose sms were gonna pull it through the front seeing as how I have no front clip.

Maybe the clutch disk isn't lined up right?

If you have an alignment tool, then I'm sure you also put the transmission in gear and rotated the tail shift to line up the input shaft spline with the clutch disk.

Wouldn't think it would be necessary for a standard transmission, but to install an automatic I found it helpful to make some alignment pins by cutting the heads off two bolts and cutting a screw driver slot (for removal) in the ends.

Yes we rotated the Driveshaft and used the alignment pins. That's why we are so stumped and why I'm resorting to taking the tranny out. It would go in until the last 3/4 of an inch or so but no more..

Having the front clip off is the only way to go .. From what you describe you lack the pilot bushing is all .. Maybe there's I.D. to O.D. mismatch on the pilot bushing ? or angle as has been mentioned .. H.S. girlfriends always complain about that

It was the pilot bushing! After going back Saturday and having the clutch off twice..the bushing was wrong. Halfway through the bushing was smaller than the input shaft so it was only allowing a little bit. Soo after 2 hours the engine is in (as of Saturday)
