Does anyone know where I can get parts for the lid on the floor pan that you remove to access the battery? I looked on DC and LMC and they don'y seem to have anything. weird. Mostly looking for the seal and a few parts for the latch.
Ive been looking for the same parts. I at a point where I think you will probably have to fab some up. One lid I have someone just welded a flat piece of metal to one side so you put the lid in at an angle the flat metal goes under the floor pan and the twist wire on the oposite side locks it down not original but it works. I have one old gasket thats in pretty good shape. Im using it on my 65 right now. I was thinking maybe a bead of outdoor silicone sealant down it the channel around the opening non removable but probably every bit as good as the factory rubber seal that was originaly there.
Thanks, Buzz. By the way, you are welcome anytime. I'll take you down to my buddies place. He has an immaculate fully restored '66 F100. Also has a 37 ford pick up, '63 Falcon rancho that he just finished. He actually has too many cars to bother listing here, including a '36 ford school bus (the first bus in the Methow Valley, and a Grand Torino original unrestored with a super cobra jet that he bought new in '67. It's a fun place to visit.
I made my own seals from a thick piece of rubber mat I have had laying around for a decade or so. I used contact cement where you apply a coat to both the metal and rubber and let it get tacky before installing the rubber. It has worked well for over a year.
As far as finding a cover. I have had very good luck on evil bay by finding someone that is selling used parts on the old trucks and contacting them with a specific request. Use the "ask seller a question" option.
No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has either one.
The cover and seal used on 1957/86 C Series Tilt Cabs: Not the same.
btw: No such thing as a Torino until 1968, no such thing as a Gran (no d) Torino until 1972.
Thanks, ND. I'm surprised that DC doesn't make a reproduction.
btw, The car is actually a 1968 Ford Torino GT fastback w/ a 428. Still a unique situation. Not many guys can point to a car like that and say, "I ordered that car and drove it home new from the dealership in 1968".
called tom at flashback100's & got a good used lid.
haven't got around to the gasket yet but from looking at the floor pan thought a piece of rubber hose cut in half longwaze would work well (pbly gas line hose or something similar diameter). then glue it in.
