Hi all...I've been searching through the forum and throughout the web for this issue. I have seen some of the same issues reported but no clear resolution...I really need your help.
I have a 2011 F150 EB SCREW 4x4. Built in september 2011. The issue seems to have started recently as follows:
1st incident- driving normal, came to stop, accelerate from stop (normally) and the truck was stuck in first gear. Pulled over, shut it off, waited, restarted and seemd ok.
2nd incident (today)- driving normal at around 40mph in 6th gear and all of a sudden the transmission violently jumped to 1st gear for no reason! Then slowly geared back up to 6th again.
Also, I have sometimes noticed that soon after startup, but adequetly warmed up, the truck will seem to keep pulling forward at a stop light with the brakes on hard...rpm is at normal idle but it seems like the torque converter will not "let go".
I'm going to be calling the dealer but need your feedback and advice, especially regarding any TSB's, SSM's etc for this?
I just called the dealership and told them what was going on...telling them that it is also a major safety issue! I'm dropping it off later today and they're putting me in a rental car.
I'm so friggin' mad right now. I take really, really good care of this truck, have never towed anything and drive it normally. Never used the manually shifting etc. The crazy thing also is that I have read of other owners having this same issue!
I'm still looking to see if anyone here may have some related TSB's or other info that may help me and the dealership resolve??
I dropped the truck off at the dealership last night. They put me in to a Ford Focus rental car (no charge of course). I drafted up a summary of the issues I have been having and highlighted the fact that the truck is unsafe to drive.
I was a little white knuckled driving on the highway there...hoping that it would not act up at 70 mph!
They're going to take a look at it today and call me with what they find and what they're going to do to fix it. I'm a little uneasy right now, not only for the obvious reasons but also that the issues are hard to replicate. They better not come back to me and say "no problem found" because there is a problem...a big problem! I'll keep you updated on what the outcome is.
So I just got my truck back. No codes, all "hardware" looks good. There is a TSB that addresses the hard shifting and other shifting issues. So they reflashed the tranny with the update. Drove home from dealership and it felt really smooth so far even while it was in the "re-learning" mode. I will drive it for a while and provide another update after a week to let you know.
I would recommend anyone with the shifting issues get this TSB as I've seen several other threads about this.
ISSUE
Some 2011-2012 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.5L engine and 2012 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.7L engine may exhibit a delayed harsh downshift or an abrupt shift event when quickly releasing the throttle pedal after a brief hard acceleration. Other concerns may be a harsh 1-2, 2-3 or 3-4 upshift while driving.
"Sigh"....so I'm still having weird shifting issues going on even after the reflash. I was hoping that would have solved the issues but it hasn't. The TSB that was applied seeded to make the shifting smoother but that's not really what the original issue was in the first place. In summary, as I described already, the issue is with abrupt behavior with the shifting. I really think the issue is with the torque converter and/or mechanically with the tranny itslef...nothing to do with the computer software.
So...I am tempted to call Ford Customer Service even though I have attempted to get it repaired once so far. My biggest concern (other than the obvious) is that this is a major safety issue. For instance, today I was pulling out of the gas station and the engine reved up and I was rolling but not going anywhere per se and the speedo wasn't moving (i know sounds strange right?) then she finally kicked in and started accelerating. I relate it to a standard shift car where you're barely letting out the clutch, just enough to get a little movement.
Anyhow...I guess I need to call the dealer again and speak to the service manager. I'm soooo disappointed with this truck right now.
Can't help with the problem, but I would suggest that you schedule a trip to the dealer. Not just to drop it off with the hopes they will fix it. But schedule things so that you can take the tech (not the service writer or manager) along for a test drive to show him exactly what's going on. My bet is if you can show them what's happening, they will have a better chance of either figuring it out or explaining to the folks on Fords Hotline what the problem is.
Hopefully, this time, they can figure it out and get you back on the road.
Thank you for the referal to the TSB 13-2-3. I should have had them perform that when I had my truck in the first time. The thing is that my symptoms at that time did not seem to completely fit but...now they do.
The last thing that happened fits almost identical to TSB 13-2-3. SO I called the service manager and explained the situation and the new TSB. He is supposed to call me back later today to confirm they have the parts and when to come in. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Thanks again for the TSB reference...greatly appreciated!
I got my truck back yesterday from having the TSB "applied". The TSB as noted earlier involves removing the tranny fluid pan to gain access to the value body. The valve body is then replaced with an updated one from Ford...new fluid added and good to go.
I had them do the works package while it was there as it was due. So it seemed to feel better so far. Between this TSB and a previous TSB for the tranny reflash, overall it shifts much smoother. I haven't spun up the turbos yet to see how it shifts but will try that soon. Keeping my fingers crossed that this fixes it permanently.
It's so odd that for the first 18k miles there were no shifting issues and then all of a sudden it started going crazy so-to-speak.
I'm new to the forum. Want to put my 2 cents worth in concerning TSB 13-1-7. I own a 2011 and have hard upshift in lower gears in cold weather. Took to dealership to reprogram ECM. Cost was 100$. It still does it after the reflash of the software so assume it's a flaw in software or tranny that ford is unwilling to cover or they don't know how to fix and are sweeping it under the rug. Very disappointed. Like the truck but doubt if I buy another ford pickup. So will live with this by letting the truck warm up for at least 10 minutes, since this seems to alleviate the issue, every cold winter day until time to get different truck.
Hi all I tried to look up the TSB 13-2-3 could not find it does someone have a link to it. I have a 2012 f150 crew cab ecoboost bought new with only 35000 miles and am having shift problems jumps in and out gear 2nd and 3rd and down to 1st still under warranty for a few months so bringing it in will let all know results
