I was looking at a used 2000 X LTD for a friend and I noticed the rear calipers were were both mounted towards the rear of the axle.
On my 2000 X LTD, the driver side caliper is on the front side of the axle and the pass. side is on the backside.
This seems rather odd.....
Anyone know why they would stagger them?
Which way is really better?
Both X's are 4x4 PSD's
My X was an early 2000 build and the other was in June.
Just changed the rear pads on my dad's '00 X LTD a couple months ago....both calipers were mounted on the backside of the axle.
The only advantage I can see to having both calipers to the left of the axle centerline (as you're looking at the axle) is cost savings....you'd only need one caliper that would fit both sides, instead of casting two different calipers for each side.
Kinda interesting that some Xs had one setup and other Xs had a different setup....mid-year change?
