Yeah that looks just like mine minus the perportioning valve. But mine has Disc Brakes on the front.
I replaced the Master Cylinder today and that fixed my pedal problem. I could feel a lack of spring tention in the old Master Cylinder. Its working great now and I would like to thank everyone who tried to help or posted pictures.JRB65
Thanks for the update, glad you got it sorted out.
Wow! Wished I would have known this about a week ago. I rebuilt mine and noticed a hole (grease fitting was gone) and the mechanism was pretty stiff. I figured it was a factory screw up and a grease fitting was never installed because it was not tapped. I should have known better. Never heard of a press fit fitting before.
I referred to them as press fittings, they are also called drive type fittings.
The drive end has a series of flutes like a miniature hose fitting.
They sell a special tool to install them but what I use is a 1/4" drive deep well socket that is big enough to go over the grease fitting and seat on the collar. It doesn't take a lot of force to set the fitting, usually just a few taps of a hammer and it's set.
I went out and looked at mine, it looks like it's a press fit. There's no hex on the fitting to tighten with a wrench.
To get the right size fitting all you need is the hole diameter. A real simple gauge is to use the smooth end of a drill bit. A real common size for press in fittings is a 3/16" hole diameter so I'd start there and go up or down as needed.
Here's a picture of the grease fitting and a pic of how my pedal assy turned out.
Just to follow up, it turned out to be a 1/8" press fit. Couldn't find any local so ordered a few off the internet, shipping ended up costing more than the fittings Everything I could find local was screw in type.
Thanks for the update, glad you got it sorted out.
Mike,
I have been reading this thread and have a question. You helped me out with my daughters NSS problem a while back. Anyway, I have noticed for a while that the brake light switch has been "Mickey Moused" I threw that in as a local reference. The pedal does not return all the way back so the the previous owner installed a spacer of some sort to make the switch work even though the pedal does not return. Since she bought the truck, a shop has replaced two master cylinders. The brakes and brake light work fine, but the switch is not correct and it bugs me. I will look for and grease the fitting today. It seems that there must be a linkage that needs to be adjusted? Thanks. Ben
