I'm ready to put a rear view camera in my X, but can't find what I really want. I'd love to find a multi-camera system with a thin 4" (or larger) monitor that can be tucked up behind the visor.
But I haven't found that, so I'm looking to see what others are doing. What are your recommendations? And pics are always welcome!
Ford OEM Rearview mirror with 1.5" LCD screen (left edge) that triggers on automatically when you put the truck in reverse. The LCD is hidden when not turned on
I used a OEM 2010 F-150 backup camera...but that wouldn't work too well on your X. Pretty much any aftermarket license plate frame camera will work great.
I've got maybe $350 in my setup using all factory components and it's wired to operate like factory.
I like the rearview mirror setup because I'm already looking in it naturally while check my side mirrors. Its placement makes more sense to me logically than a dash mounted screen
I went with the one in the link below. But I got a 7" monitor that I had hoped would fit about rear view mirror but won't. So I'm gonna mount it on the floor. I'll be installing this weekend I hope.
I used the VR3 wireless system I bought from Costco a few years back. Camera mounts on the license plate screws. I wired the power to the switched 12V+ in the trailer plug. The monitor inside uses power from the cigarette lighter port. Not the greatest, but it works hitching the trailer.
I bought a gendex rear view mirror with
built in display, like oem.
Have a small camera to be mounted IN
the handle area of the liftgate.
bought exact camera in the thread by a guy
i met at a gtg, he's from GA.
Search for "backup camera hardwired" i am
on mobile and can't link

I have the same camera mirror from gendex and,
a camera on the top of the license plate bracket.
They make the mirrors/cameras for the oem.
I love mine for solo trailer hookup & its in the natural lookig spot!

How about a GPS system that supports backup a camera?
Camera is an upgrade I want to add for hooking up my trailer and possibly adding one to the back of the trailer. Reading with interest the ideas out there.
Mine is a Kenwood camera plugged into my aftermarket Kenwood stereo. I also mounted the camera in the third brake light.
I would really like to see a picture of your third brake light camera mounting, I've seen the license plate mounts and the hatch lift handle ones but not up top like yours. Could you also provide a screen shot to show what the view looks like? I have camera(s)/monitor plans in my future and am very interested in what others have come up with.
I plan to have one on the plate or hitch to help with solo hitchups as well as a high mounted one to provide a view down that will cover the entire rear bumper out to just past the corners for tight backing situations. Plans also include a camera on the rear of the ToyHauler to keep an eye on that blindspot and another inside the garage area of the trailer to know if a problem developes with any of the toys or their bindings, a loose ATV, bike, cycle etc can do a lot of damage if it startes moving around in there!
hooked into the lens of the third brake light. Sorry for the delay, but the website i used for photos before deleted my account. Went to another site and had to upload them all over again.
Thanks for the pic AL, any chance of a shot of the monitor to see how the veiw is? I like that location but want to be sure the camera catches all of the rear's width. What camera is that?

I'm still loading all the pics, but I'll get one up there soon as possible. Mine is a Kenwood which hooks up to the kenwood radio. I think there is only one kenwood camera (or at least there was at the time I got it. 5yrs ago)
