I own a 1977 f250 and was looking to lift it another two inches or so without buying an expensive lift if they even make one for highboys cause i sure cant find one. I went ahead and flipped my rear shackle housing hoping for at least an inche but came back to stock height again by the looks now im able to do some sort of shackle lift, can you buy shackles or should just take the dimesions of what little shackle came stock and call up the local steel co and order a flat piece of stock and make my own?
Home made shackle flip for the rear. This will either eliminate the rear block and maintian the stock heigth, or will raise the rear about 4 inches.
Shackles. Lets talk shackles. Sure you can make your own, but remember that you are only lifting one end of the spring. So in order to obtain 2 inches of lift, you will have to change the mounting location by double the amount of desired lift. In other words if the goal is 2 inches, the shackle will have to be 4 inches longer. Measure your shackles now, this is going to double the length. You will have cjanged the caster by so much that the truck will steer super slow and will feel heavy. The steering geometry will be affected because the stock steering will be in a bind. You may even run into driveline angle troubles. You will point the pinion towards the ground and during suspension cycles, you may start to bind the u-joint.
This is probably not the best choice for this small amount of lift.
Nothing comes cheap, and you should do it right from the beginning. Cutting corners never ends in anything good.
Make your own shackles, but keep strength in mind and dont get too crazy with the length, or the ride will suffer and you will have some potential saftey issues.
sky manufactoring makes a shackle flip kit and claim 4 1/2 in. of lift, $150 bucks. heres the link- Ford Rear Shackle Flip Kit - Sky's Off-road Design
i got the cant finda bolt on lift kit for my high-boy blues too!
Sky's kit is for 3 inch wide springs. I am not aware that they make one for the narrow springs on a HB. They will work of a 77.5 to 79 truck, but not for the HB.
Keep that in mind.
