Well i've been chasing around EGR codes and resolving my terrible mpg I been getting with my '94 4x4 F150 5 speed 300 - Six (10-12mpg).
It started with code 327 low voltage to the EVP, so I replaced EGR with a used one (to see if that was my problem), also replaced a couple little vacuum lines I noticed were pretty bad looking.
Cleaned and unseized the used EGR, and I could suck open the pindle, so it checked out good.
Installed that, check engine light went away for about 20 miles.... then came back with 332 - EGR not opening.
I left it like that for a few days, and pressure washing my engine bay few days ago, noticed my 3 back plugs were super loose.....huh? I put those in 4 months ago, anyways, tight 'em up, and wow they were loose, I could tight 'em with just my fingers 2-3 full turns.
Once I tighten the plugs, the check engine went out. I cleared the codes, and it never came back. I do get one code - 11 system check ok, perfect! no more codes.
Set my timing today as my final attempt to fix my bad mpg.... glad I did.
It was at 7*! I bumped it up to 12* and WOW noticed a difference right away just by how quick the engine fires up! It's literally a turn key start now, compared to before it always had to turn over a couple turns before firing off.
Now I just touch the key and fires of, and runs soo smooth. Noticed a good increase in power to! Alot peppier now.
So just wanted to remind you guys to check your timing, this is something often overlooked, and so easy to check and set.
Enjoy your free extra power and better mpg!
I'll report back after a couple tanks see where my mpg is at now!
Thanks John, for the heads up on the timing. One question on the OBDI system with a 302 do I set & check timing the same as on the older vehicles??
Thanks, Craig
Yep, find the mark on the harmonic balancer, and the timing degrees on the timing chain cover i think they're on a 302 (not sure) fire 'er up and shine the light on it and loosen your distributor and turn it to adjust your timing.

Thanks John good info.

You loosen a bolt at the base of the distributor and turn the distributor body. Where does it say its not adjustable?
It says ignition timing is not adjustable, but then it goes on to tell you how to check it. Ford and their silly contradictions.
I need to pick up a cheap timing light so I can get it taken care of. I don't know the best way to see the timing marks on the crank either. I wish there was an easier way to advance it without messing anything up.

It is, what it is.
There's 2 separate sets of timing marks on an I6...
As you stand in front of the truck, you'll be looking on the left side of the crankshaft...About 11' o' clock position.
