Thumbs up Highly Recommended

My 300 inline 6 seemed kinda upset. It stumbled off the line, and if I tapped the petal it acted as a killswitch. The motor seemed like it was really struggling; once you got it going it was impressive but before that it was almost embarrassing. I toyed around with many different ideas of how to get the motor running smooth: turbo, new exhaust, different exhaust, bigger carb, different gas, rebuild the motor, drop a diesel in it and give up. I researched all of my options and decided that the easiest, cheapest, and quickest thing to try would be a new exhaust. Lots of pro-6 guys recommended the exhaust manifolds off of an EFI 6 - why not try it? I picked up a set from a junkyard off of a 96 for $40. I had to grind the rear-most hole on the front manifold that is used for lining up so that it would clear my throttle and choke cable bracket mount on the stock intake, but other than that they bolted up without a single problem. Plugged the egr tube hole at the back of the rear manifold with a 1" pipe thread bolt and then began on the exhaust. Since I work in a fab shop, and a friend of mine had a truckload of stainless exhaust pipe, I decided to build my own. I ran 2" pipes off of each manifold together into a 2.25" pipe. I ran it down the passenger's side, attached a glasspack to it to muffle it and provide some back pressure, and shot it out the side. When I warmed the motor up for the first time after the exhaust was complete, my jaw hit the horn. Much better throttle response, no more stumble when taking off, and she sounded amazing. Still some hesitation when I blip the throttle, but not nearly as bad as before. To anybody with a stock i6 that wants a little more power, better sound, and a smoother running motor, I would highly recommend this exhaust swap - I would NEVER have believed that changing the exhaust would do as much for a motor as it did for mine.

Glad you like it. I have been a fan of the 300s for years now, and they don't take much to be a really nice engine. Stock, they are kind of lackluster, though. I went from a modified to a stock one, and it is boring.
