What is this?

I was playing around on ebay, and ran into this car. I think it's a Y block??

Anyway, look at the manifold on the drivers side and the exhaust. Was this from the factory? What would the point of doing this be?

If it is item #4592051060 and it is the stock engine, then it is a 239 cu in Y-block and that is the stock exhaust.

yeah, that's just the exhaust crossover pipe. rather than connecting the exhausts into a single pipe behind the motor, there was more room or it was just easier to do it in front of the motor. Not the best for performance, but it got the job done.

thanks guys. I have never seen that before. I wonder if it burns up wirign and hoses in that part of the engine.

It looks like some hideous thing chrysler would do.

Nope, just some hideous thing Ford did before they had a "better idea"! LOL! Cheap to build and made steering clearance a snap. That exhaust arrangement also makes it easy to ID a Y block.
