66' Door Arm Rests Remove/Replace

Hello, my first post here so I apologize ahead of time.

I'm trying to remove the door arm rests and with a 7/16th socket and I can feel in the door that the bolt is spinning on the clip/nut. any suggestions? I have new arm rests that are waiting for installation!

Thanks,
Mike

Remove the door panel below the arm rest, reach up inside with a pliers or vice grips and hold the retaining nut, gets a little awkward and you'll likely skin your arm contorting it while rubbing on the sharp edges of the door but it should work, you'll likely need to replace the nut since it will be badly rusted.

Round and round she goes, where she stops, no one knows.

Clips are stamped sheet metal, sorta V shaped, fit into holes of door panel. Remove access panel, reach in, hold end of clips with pliers or vice grips, so they won't spin around.

There are no nuts of any kind associated with these clips = BA-7024146-A .. Armrest Clip / 1961/66 F100/1100 / 1961/67 Econoline / 1952/64 myriad Passenger Cars.

Originally, Philips head screws were used with the clips = 353421-S8 .. Armrest Screw ~ No. 14 -10 x 1 3/4" long.

Thanks guys, I probably should have tried that option worked on a few "older" vehicles in my day. I assume the same routine work going back or if there is a better option maybe a regular nut and lock washer?

Thanks again.

Once you get it out replace it with the clips ND listed and you'll be good to go these clips rust and break over time. If you keep your truck in good condition they shouldn't give you any problems the next time you take the armrests off. Better then getting behind the door and scraping your hand up trying to get off a nut and washer but they will work just as good as using the clips but you won't have to take the panel off like you would with a bolt and nut.

I have lots of OE armrest L bracket and machine thread screws...anti sieze is the key...As for removing the originals...PB blaster after wire brushing them on the inside of the door...let sit a bit...30 min or so...go back with a GOOD fitting Phillips and try to get the screw to break loose from the L bracket...once you do that tighten it up thus exposing a bit the end where cruds accumulated...wire brush them again and PB Blast again..then unscrew them...its taken me a few years to master it...but thats the trick...you can usually just hold the clip as tyou work it back and forth/in & out...If you cant hang onto it with your fingers, a 3/4" open end wrench fits the clip...as for the replacement clips...light duty stuff IMO...

i just looked at LMCs catalog...those clips arent anywhere near original...thin sheetmetal type crapola...and for their price...I wouldnt touch them..just my opinion

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has 50 = 888-727-0418.

DON SANDERSON FORD in Glendale AZ has 74 = 623-842-8643.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 94 = 800-543-4959.

Why buy LMC repro made in China crap parts, when you can buy genuine Ford parts?

Wow.... I didnt know there were that many of them darlings out there... Odd thing though... Ive recently snagged armrests off of a few older cars... A 55 Country Sedan for one... They've all had those huge phillips sheetmetal screws that are just run into to door...
Oh well... Different setups for different plants...
Thanks Bill for the info

Thats cool Masked.. but how did get the bolts to go in angled given the armrest is designed to mount with a diagonally placed screw....

Works great but I think just replacing the stock screws with the allen heads and greasing the threads, it will never rust - which is what caused those damn screws to freeze up. You can't imagine how many of those things I've had to drill out to get the arm rests off.
