Before I installed my exhaust take off was smooth but after the install rear tires shake slightly upon releasing clutch and after that everything is fine all the way through powerband with 4-spd and 393 stroker. My exhaust buddy and I build the system outside so I backed up on lifting ramps, set parking brake and after we tacked and fitted system then welded all joints I rolled down ramp and the tire shake was there. I have a locker rearend and I thought maybe my problem was there - set rear on jackstands, removed tires, started truck and went through the gears; no noise and clutch and engine shifted fine. I have no idea what is going on here - any suggestions guys?
What type of locker do you have? Did your shacking problem exist before the exhaust? jds1971 my have a point about the ground.
Or maybe you have the same problem I have. My rearend shackes when I apply the brakes(on my truck). I have been told that the rear brakes are not applying the same pressure at the same time and the locker in the rear is trying to engage power to the side it feels is slipping. I run a Power-Loc with aggressive clutches.
Also my truck will shake when I take off hard from a stop. I run a 460 with the 360 flywheel and clutch. To much torque for the small clutch to handle.
My first thought was the parking brake so I pulled the wheels and drums and made sure they won't locked - everything was OK. All the welds were made with the ground on the header collector so we can rule that out. My locker type; no clutches but my fluid was not completely full after checking today - added about 3/4 quart and then went for a test drive. The tire shake was still present but if you came on off the clutch quick it wasn't that bad. I drove maybe 10 miles, stopped and started 3 times and on the last stop pushed in clutch, slowed and shifted into 1st gear and shut off engine. I coasted about 30 feet while applying brake and right before it stopped I pulled foot off of clutch pedal (this was in a rock parking lot) and the rear tires dragged 2 feet. I started it back up and when I hit the pavement and my next start-stop (1 mile) everything is fine. I have no idea where my problem was and what corrected it; I drove 10 miles to the house with 3 more start-stops and still everything is normal. Any ideas on what I did today to cure my problem because I haven't got a clue.
Maybe you just needed to show her who is the boss. I know my friends car (locker equipt) gives him trouble if he lets it set for some time. He usually takes it out to an empty parking lot and does figure eights and that losens it back up. Anyway, that is good news that it is fixed, knock on wood.
