I've been reading through all the forums on 393 strokers and have decided that I want to create one of my because it's pretty obvious my truck isn't going to sell at this point.
Like most people my budget is ~$3,000. The truck is a 1996 Ford Bronco with a MAF 351W, rebuilt E40D trans, rebuilt BW1356 T-case, 4.10s front and rear with the Dana 44 TTB and Ford 8.8" rear end. It has roughly 296k miles on it and still turns the 33's over like nothing.
The engine currently has K&N air filter, MSD plugs/wires and long tube headers.
I'm not knew to the engine building aspect of this just the part ordering aspect of everything (so all the lift numbers, etc. confuse me )
I plan on having the engine turbo charged (just because I can get one for free and wanna have some fun even though it's pointless and a daily driver.
The most I know so far is that I will need a tune when all is said and done, and people have told me to get a Lightning wiring harness? i believe.
I'll need a vortex throttle body, I'm keeping the same intake, just going to have it cleaned. I know i'll probably need bigger injectors, a MSD distributor most likely.
Cam wise I'm unsure of what to do. Either a 5.0 H.O mustang cam or one that Conanski has posted about before (i forget which one it is). Crank I'm assuming will come with the stroker kit. As for heads i don't know if i should go with AFR 205/305 or maybe just GT40s for cost effectiveness.
I plan on going with an electric fan, eliminating the A/C. The oil pan/pump will be staying the same (except buying a new stock oil pump). The power steering pump is being replaced just because it's leaking and... That's about it..
You're all over the map here. You have an OBD2 MAF setup so you don't need any other computer or wiring just a tuner like the Moates Quarterhorse.
There's no way you can build a stroker that will handle forced induction with $3000 though, so if you get a turbo sell it and use the money to buy good heads. GT40s are just stupid on an engine this size and besides that you could have 500hp/500tq no problem without boost which is enough to destroy everything else in the powertrain anyway. And of course you also need larger injectors, MAF, intake, fuel pump, and the tuner setup so hopefully you got another $2000 stashed away for all that stuff.
Yeah.. Jags didn't come with a small block chevy.. so there's that, and as you can see in the video they didn't get far before the motor started to have problems, so if you only want the motor to last for a couple days then sure.. strap a turbo on it and give her hell.
I'm just trying to say that, why can't I keep stock intake, upgrade the cam with like a 5.0 cam, stroker kit for crank/pistons, eagle rods, vortex TB and call it good? Most the others I have read on you say they can do it in roughly 3... Why is mine roughly 5?
The OEM Ford heads and intake limit output to about 260-275hp, if you're good with a 393 that only makes 260-275hp then sure.. bolt it together with those stock parts.
I've built several, use Probe piston's and stock 351w rods with ARP bolts or I-beam rods. Don't use H-beam. Get a set of E7 heads and have 1.94 intake and 1.50 exhaust valves installed with a Ford Motor Sport cam- E303 or better yet call Comp Cams and tell them the spec's on the truck/motor and what you want and they will tell you what cam to use.
