First off I would like to introduce myself. My name is Trent but I go by Pete. My family and live in NC where I am about to retire from the military in about 18 months. I found a really good deal on a 1991 F150. I love the body style and this needs some work all over. It will be a nice little project for my son and I.
Unfortunately I noticed a problem the other day when I went to go home from work. As I put my truck in drive it felt like it was in low gear. It acted like it just didn't want to go. I turned the vehicle off and back on, and it acted fine when I put it back in drive. Yesterday when leaving work it did the same thing only I had to put it in low, start going, switch to 2nd, then to drive. I had to do that when I came to a stop three different times before it finally started acting normal. Any suggestions on the cause or how to fix? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'm not a big auto expert but I can get things rolling here. First of all, what transmission do you have? You could post your VIN but the more accurate way would be to crawl under and compare it to LMC's diagram.
The first thing I'd do (problems or not) is a transmission fluid and filter change. Often, when that filter gets plugged, transmissions don't like to shift as you noted.
