Id agree to that.now with the epa wanting these trucks to get 20 miles to the gallon or more Cummins is up against the wall so is Ford or any other diesel motor manufacturer caterpillar no longer produces over the road diesel engines they said they can't be madeto get good enough mileage to make the EPA happy and still be a durable motor.
never heard of "block 53"" unless you are talking about one of the V8's they built back in the 70's
the 555 and 903 cummins V8"s were high rpm noise makers. no power or torque, but boy did it rev, and make noise, and drink diesel fuel. kinda like a detroit.
"Block 53" were Brazillian built 24 valves. It was when Cummins came out with it in around '99-01 is when "Block 53". These engine blocks were made thinner than original Cummins' specs and have a nasty tendency to crack.
LOTS of info out there on the 53 blocks. A quick google search will give you enough reading for a week.
Yup, they are one of the few cummins things to avoid. Still, there's enough info out there on how to identify, etc. that you can easily avoid them. Or you can buy one for cheap & put the pump & parts on a non 53 bock & have a great motor for less than what many people spend.
