Would take me 8. I drove to Memphis once to replace a spindle om a firetruck, and drove back home the same day. Unfortunately, that was to re-do the spindle I put in it a few days before! That sucked big time!
They were actually repairable although you lost a few seconds of music...but then again you lost a few if the song lasted thru a track change. I had a 67 Cougar that (to be cool I guess) I soldered a resistor and a momentary contact switch so I could change tracks from the armrest in my door.
In that collection I found, there's an Englebert Humperdinck that HAD to belong to some chick I must have been dating at the time.
I distinctly remember the first time I heard Nazereth's Hair of the Dog riding to school in my brother's '69 Impala.
"Are they saying.............what I think they're saying?????
You better not let Mom hear that................."

Did that song get any air time back in the 70's? I didn't have a radio until I was in high school, which was 1978-79. And my folks listened to country, just like I do today! I never knew the name of that song until just recently. My brother played in a band back in the late 80's and they played that song, and he told me that he never knew the name of that song! He just played it.
If you decide to go the 8 track route I probably have an extra copy of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass/ Whipped Cream and other delights around here somewhere.
Thanks Ed. I am traveling next week. When I return I will send you a PM with my UPS acct #, address, etc.
Might have to explore your other selections though....
There are actually 8-track player/recorders available on ebay! I couldn't believe it. Units for the house as well for the car. Wonder if Crutchfield offers anything!
Keep the factory look with the nice sounds of todays stereo! I remember back then it was all about speakers and equalizer/power boosters. 6X9 speakers are OK, but mount a subwoofer with a separate power amp, and divert those low frequencies away from the other speakers to the sub, really makes a stereo sound so much better. The 6X9's can do a lot better without having to reproduce those real low frequencies. Separate tweeters also bring out the highs too. Now, if you really want t go hog wild, dynamat the entire interior!

Cmon...Herb Alpert is border music
Anyways, grabbed a box on my way in from the garage (the TEMPORARY, I hope, residing spot for the 8 tracks. Seriously, these have been in my attic for about 35 years. Its your way or the highway. After KEITH sorts through these lists, its fair game for anyone.
15 for today, in a black nauga box with bordello red interior. Might be an old condom wrapper in there, who knows?

Overall, these havent been out of the 8track case in 30+ years. They worked then, I switched to cassettes and then CDs early on. I'm guessing they're ok.
You weren't nobody unless you had the first Foreigner 8 track, crankin' through you Craig power play 8 track that was mounted under the dash of your Firebird............All run through the Sparko-matic 6x9s on the back deck with pipe-organ grille covers.
Sparkomatic speakers!!! I remember them! And the Craig 8-track tape players too. You could install an equalizer/booster, then the trick was to use a noise filter to eliminate the interference from the cars charging system, or you had a constant hum coming from the speakers.
What about FM converters for your AM only car radio?
You guys are bringing back some memories...
