Swapping suspensions

Here are the two candidates:

My truck - 2002 250 Lariat 4x4 off road stock suspension

His truck - 2000 350 dually lariat LE 4x4 off road

He called today and asked about the possibility of swapping the suspension with me to get his down, and figured I wouldn't mind the lift. His truck came stock with procomp front leafs and dual shocks with what looks like a 2"lift. I'm assuming it has lift in the rear as well.

I can't think of any reason why we can't swap, other than his tires will probably be too tall after it's lowered. Think he's got 285/75/17, and I know 285/75/16 rubbed on my FX4.

I'd like some input if anyone has any. I really think it should be straight unbolt and bolt up. He was talking about changing front springs as well, but I wasn't sure if my v codes are undersized for the dually? I'll take a look at his this evening and see, just curious what you guys think.

Interesting options you have there Jeff. Hope it works out for both of you. Oh yeah, I bet it is pretty much and unbolt and rebolt situation.

you "should" just need to swap front springs and rear blocks........I think. If he has a two inch lift on the front and it is sitting level then the rear should be stock 350 blocks.

That's what I was thinking and hoping. Well that and the shocks, and I think his dual shocks may have a different mount at the frame, but that should still be just bolt on.

So do duallys come with V codes? I don't know what's on there now, but i know it's like 4 leafs. I don't see why my v codes would hurt him any, same weight in the front, and he doesn't tow heavier than I do.

I'm also thinking new bushing all the way around on both trucks is a good idea. Time to shop for bushing kits.

Oh and I'm pretty sure he has about 2" on me at the tailgate, so it probably is stock 350 blocks.

Do you have V/B and the LE have X/C codes? If so you can unbolt and bolt but im not sure how much the towing capacity is limited to on the dually if any at all.

Duallys use a different leaf pack than SRW f350's. The leaf pack is much thicker in the dually so they usually have an f250 size block in the back. Not the 4" blocks that come in the SRW f350's. SRW f250 and f350 have the same spring just different size blocks.

My understanding is you could order the plow package that came with v codes but no not all duallys came with v codes, again to my knowledge.

If I were you I would swap front springs with him and get yourself a pair of f350 blocks. I wouldn't switch rear suspension with him unless you want the larger dually leaf pack and he wants the smaller SRW f250/350 spring pack. If he wants the back of his truck lower you can always pull the blocks. That should drop his dually about 2.5".

Hope this helps.

It does, thanks. One thing I'd like to correct though is that V codes are on most stock 250s. X codes are the plow package, heaviest front springs. That's why I was curious if duallys had Vs in the front since they are lighter springs, or a different code that was heavier.

Your right... I get the v codes and x codes all mixed up

And yes everything should be a direct swap. These trucks use a lot of the same parts. Like Legos

Hi, i was searching info on x code springs and found this thread. Does the x code springs ride stiffer than the v codes?

Yes. X codes are stronger and stiffer than v codes. I don't have the numbers for rating off hand, but I've seen it several times.

I'll have to check the sticker on the dually (should have done that first), but the front springs are procomp, with 5 leaves.

Jeff, I changed my V-code for X-code on my dually. Both are 2 leaf. If he has 5 leafs they must be after market.

I can't tell a difference on the ride, but the x codes lifted my front 1 1/2".
