Btw To the OP Those tire sizes are the same right the only difference is the rim? That means they should be the same height but only have a different side wall

Well now I'm not sure. I talked to him last night but didn't get a chance to look at the truck. I thought his wheels were 17s, cause his son wanted the tires, but they wouldn't fit. Apparently it's the sons truck that has the 17s. So dropping him down with v codes, he will rub very little at sharp turns with 285/75-16s. That's what was on my last truck.

And thanks Rick, that verifies that duallys did come stock with v codes, and since he wants it down my v codes should work fine for him.

Hmmm my truck is stock height with 285's and they don't rub. A guy i know has a dually stock height with 285's and his don't rub.

Where did yours rub? Bumper? Plastic wheel well?

285/70s won't rub. 305/70s won't rub. It's the 75 that gets you. First number is width. Second number is the ratio of width to profile. It was the outside edge of the tire that rubbed the plastic on the side towards the curve.

Here's what I'm talking about. Bad pic, sorry, but it's the plastic fender. This is my 305/70s, wich aren't much taller than stock and they don't rub here.

Here's the same 305/70s

This is a 285/75. You can see how much taller it is.

Well sorry for the delay, I've been super busy the past few weeks. We did get the suspensions successfully swapped out. It was a direct swap, but we learned quite a bit in the process.

The kit that was on the dually was a procomp 22210 kit. I believe it was a leveling kit, and the rear block on the dually was a stock ford 2" block (it had the ford stamp).

The most important thing we learned was to remove the bumper. We actually got the driver side leaf off the dually without taking the bumper off, but my bolt wouldn't come out with me pushing, him pulling, and an extra 2 foot of torque arm from the cheater pipe. Four bolts zipped out with the impact and undo the harness to the fog lights and the bumper is off, no point in fighting around it. Then I can put my 320 lbs to work, broke free and then zipped it off with the impact.

The other issue we ran into was removing the rear bolt on the front driver leaf. The front drive shaft was in the way, so we had to drop the shafts at the u-joint. We decided to reinstall the bolts from the other side so we wouldn't have to pull the shaft if we ever had to remove the bolt again. The front bolts on the front leaves required removing the trans cooler brackets to come all the way out. That was no big deal at all, except for getting the bolt to start threading. I had to pull out the little clip and squeeze it back together.

One other thing I learned was to not stick my finger in a hole to feel if it's lined up, especially when there's a crowbar holding the holes together. Don't worry, it was only a flesh wound and is healing up nicely. I think I'll even get feeling back once the rest of the scab is gone. The crowbar slipped while I was feeling for alignment and sheared off the tip of my finger

For the rear, we just pulled the ubolts, jacked up on the springs, removed/installed the blocks, and lowered the springs back down slowly and lined the little hole back up on the axle. Removed them on the dually altogether and stacked them on mine. My rear ubolts weren't long enough, so I had to remove the spacer for the backup spring. I'll keep an eye on it this weekend when I tow, and if need be I'll get longer ubolts and reinstall the spacer. I don't think I'll have any issues though.

Now for pics

And the most important fit, the carport:

I'll try to remember to snap a few pics of the dually tonight.

I would prefer to rep than post just to say good'on ya' but apparently I have approved of your previous work too much already. I admire your creativity.

And IMHO: "Creativity is the Mother of Invention"

-- not "necessity."

Automobiles were not invented because we ran out of horses and needed something to replace them. They were invented by a person who was inspired by his God-like nature to create.

(320 lbs! I am truly the smallest peanut in the gallery.)

Thanks for posting and 'picting your successful suspension swap.

Nice job Jeff. I bet you were wishing to do all that on a concrete driveway rather then sand. Were you able to find all the tools burried in the sand?

Watch those fingers!! Ouch.
Looks good, I like a mild lift, hope it doesn't mess with your trailer too much.

The horse trailer may need a bit of adjustment. I hauled some furniture in it Saturday and it was about a half inch from rubbing the rail when I pulled in the drive. I'll know about the camper Thursday morning.

Good job Brother Jeff! I still got cuffs on...guess i need to rep more often lol...

When i get mashes and gashes, scrapes and bruises... they just remind me of what i accomplished..

When the other guy throws his money away at the dealer... i save mine and get a good workout at the same time...

Pain is merely weakness...
Making its way out of the body.

Thanks Chris, and no worries on the reps man, I'm in jail with several people that need some green recognition.

I have 285s on stock so you should have nothing to worry about with the lowering.
