Coolant leak on top motor

98f150 4x4 4.2

Small leak spraying out of a steel pipe onto the front of the motor. This isn't my truck so I'm not very familiar with it but looks like there is a pipe that come from the water pump threw a bracket and y's and one end has a hose going to heater core n the other part is where the leak is I think it has a hose connected to it that goes to the intake. Only leaks when thermostat open.

I'm going to take it apart tonight n see what I find. Iv looked for a replacement part and found nothing so I am going to try n replace the steel pipe with hose.

Anyone else had this problem or have a fix?

I know on my 98...but a 4.6.... that tube is less than $20.00 bucks at Rock auto. Also scroll to "Cooling"...the first item is water outlet O-ring...that may be the item in question in that thread that Torky 2 is linking...not sure though.

The 4.2 V6 is a pushrod engine, but they do some odd stuff on it, like having a water distribution pipe with an O-ring on the end of it that presses into a spot on the water pump.

It's as if the designers of the 4.2 V6 were feeling left out, since they weren't working on the Modular Engine Program, so they decided to go their own way to be different.

I got an oring outta a kit no parts stores had it. Also rock auto only sells the motor craft part now and had two different ones listed w no pictures so I didn't know what to get.
