$830 gets me a new spark plug, COP, helicoil, and install labor at the dealer. Plus another night at the hotel in Cheyenne.
Wow! My dealer quoted $1200 to $1500 and wouldn't guarantee a damn thing. Went with this guy: Blownoutsparkplug.com Ford Spark Plug Thread Repair who is a master Ford mechanic at a local dealership. Nothing but good things to say about him. Was professional, honest, and owns an Ex himself (was very impressed with the power of my supercharger).
Interesting reading the different torque specs as I am pretty sure he told me 28 lbs on the plus is what he uses and recommends but I could be wrong. Doesn't help the OP but anyone in the SD/SoCal area he will change all plugs with the correct type/brand. Don't remember the exact price but was around $150 total for the service, parts included. I was told $200 for a plug change by the indi shop I use for things I don't care to do.

Reason: Corrected the lbs
That knocking, ticking, tapping sound you hear when you have a spark plug loose. When I had one blow it ticked a week before it blew and it was definitely louder when cold, now I understand why.
I did use spradley in Cheyenne. Tonight it is a plug on the opposite side of the engine than in Cheyenne. And of course this time it happened in the middle of nowhere New Mexico.
I'm the one that did the plugs and I might have messed it up but I don't know why it would take a year and a half for things to go ****ty. At this point we are damn close to getting rid of it if we can get to a town with a decent dealer. We have sunk so much into the Ex in the last year that putting more into it is rediculous.

They could take a year to work out and in that case they should still have the threads in the heads.

Same with mine, did them myself and it was over a year an about 8,000 miles before mine blew out. Just plain sucks to lose another one.
