6.0 questions
Been looking for a 05-07 super cab, 4x4, 8' bed F-350 with a 6 speed, I've had a v10 for years and love it but am interested in a 6.0.
Just found a 06 with a 6.0 and all the options I want, even the right color. I'm wondering about the 6.0 can it be a good engine in a truck? There's so much bad press out there about them I'm nervous. Truck has all the options I want, 2 owner, 130K miles, looks very clean, has had a egr delete since near new. It's never had any major service issues, (had vin # run) what do you guys think?
I want to know what to look for in a 6.0. can it be a good runner?
What's it worth? I would think the 6.0's would go for way less the KBB with there bad press?
Can the 6.0 take some minor mods after putting a head stud kit?

I think that's a good price for that truck, personally. Take it for a ride with a programmed Scangauge II, see what the oil temps are like. With an EGR delete the delta's don't matter as much but see what they are so you will know know if the oil cooler is blocked up, see what the FICM voltages are, like that.

There are a few important things to know and some things that need to be monitored, but these are great trucks with a lot of power in factory trim. My opinion is the bad rep largely comes from the dummied down instrument panel and the fact most people have the idea a diesel should run forever with very little maintenance. Ignore the maint and it will likely bite you. Ignore (or just not notice) the often subtle warning signs of impending doom and you can end up with an expensive repair bill. an OBD monitor is a necessity to stay on top of things. You are in the right place for info, great bunch of knowledgable people here at FTE can help fill in the details. My 6.0 is overall the best truck I've had and I can easily recommend buying a well taken care of example with no reservations.
