Ok im sure this has been posted before but i just have to ask is the 6.0 a lemon? and whats the main problem with them? and is there any easy fix for it? im sorry for asking this question but i just had to ask
Thanks
Mike
The 6.0 has it's fair share of issues. Mainly the head gaskets and EGR cooler failures. One thing to remember is that most people who have problems come to the internet and gripe about them. There are plenty of 6.0s running out there without issues.
The 6.0 requires a lot of love and quality maintainence. Treat it right and it will take care of you.
Thanks Riggs that's kinda funny because that's the basic's of ever vehicle treat it right and it will treat you right i guess some of us just forget about that and always expect nothing but the best out of them at all times even when we attend to miss a few oil changes here and there or new filters... wish the 06 f-250 came with Cummings engines and Allison transmissions
Thanks
Mike

Go to the duramax site and you will find the allison has their share of problems, unlike the torqshift trans.

Allison trannys aren't all that they are cracked up to be. Farmer friend of mine who doesn't haul near as much as I do either in weight or frequency burned is tranny up hauling a relatively light load of hay. We are talking about a stock truck here. I have hauled almost twice that amount(lbs) of hay, done all this stuff to my truck and yet it didn't get much hotter then it normally does when towing. The farmer's son also had a problem with the allison tranny, but it was behind the duramax engine(afterwhich he bought one of the early 6.0s and has been with Ford ever since, although he did have his share of problems with it, evidently it didn't compare to the duramax).
I agree that all manufactures have there problems. You see alot of problems on the 6.0 here because people come here to solve them. There are 6.0's out there running trouble free. I came here to research the 6.0, had a oasis done on the truck I was looking at, and now I'm extremely happy with my 03 F350!!
Maintenance is key. I'm glad I found FTE. I know what filters I should be buying, I now run Power Service diesel kleen, and have all the knowledge of alot of 6.0 owners!
Thanks for the information guys its helped a lot all i hear from my friends are that 6.0's are a POS but then again they are all Chevy guys... and i don't blame them for taking sides because i do that all the time FORD POWER! WOO!!!
Thanks
Mike
Yeah most people hear "Allison" and think wow they've been making HD, bullet proof tranny's for years and they did.
The tranny behind the Dmax isn't that great.
The ultimate would be a (really hate to say it) a Cummins (not Cummings, kind of a pet peave of mine) 5.9L in front of a Torqueshift in a Super Duty.
To me a Cummins in a Dodge is like a diamond wrapped in a diaper. You know there's a jewel in there, but it's hard to look past all of the.......well you know !!!!!!!!!!!

NO the 6.0 is not a lemon, some are, but there are lemons for all brands. the guys have covered the common issues like head gaskets, egr coolers, injectors. you can work on these trucks easier than the new 6.4l but some repairs you must lift the cab or pull the engine. a lot of guys don't have many issues. i love my truck but have also had many problems. ever since i built it up a little stronger the only problem i have had is my FICM suddenly fried. besides that its a great motor, lots of power, and sounds fantastic!
but i was just at a dyno event today and it was fully dominated with duramax chevy's. only like 2 other powerstrokes and 2 cummins. i was talking to some the the guys and i couldn't believe how many of there trucks had to get new engines. like atleast 4 guys trucks had to get new duramaxs because they blew or something. these guys were pushing the limits but i don't really hear of many people needing to replace there powerstrokes.
Mike, are you contemplating a 6.0? If you are, once you find a truck, get the VIN and have an OASIS report run. The OASIS report will tell you all dealer maintenance done on it. If the report comes back with powertrain issues...pass it up and look for another one.
I have one of the real early 6.0s...it had 34K on it when I bought it in Feb 07...it has 79K on it now and I've had no powertrain problems.
