Angry Is this normal

So I'm driving to work this morning after a clipper snow storm ran through last night. Make it all the way to work and turn of the two lane onto the parking lot road to my work....nothing but a sheet of ice since someone plowed it. Anyway at about 10mph I slide sideways and smack the curb. This is what I found when I went to look at what I thought was a tire that popped its bead. How the heck does an axle shear off?

I'm specifically concerned about - what appears to be - poor metallurgy in the second picture.

Any ideas on how to proceed with the repair?

Im no metal expert but it appears cast. Still shouldnt happen too easily. Also saw them for 170-200$ for OE, but if I was in your position would try to make sure they are forged this time.

The only way to proceed with the repair is to replace the axle and possible the parking brake assy if that was damaged as well. It's a rather easy job all things being considered.

The other option is to replace the whole rear end which might be faster to do but it could cost more and you won't know the history on the used(assumption on my part here) one you put in.

If it were me I would pull the rear end cover then pull the broken axle.

8.8 c clip? My guess is that it spun and grabbed, and was ready to break after untold torsional loads throughout it's life. I have broken many axles as a former rockcrawler, and seen many such incidents as the manager of a 4x4 shop. Try superior axle an d gear. Oem ford shafts are fine, should last another 13 years. Axle shafts do wear out, just like springs, after so much use, the harder the use, the shorter the life.

Does anyone have a source for buying a rear brake anchor? Mine got bent up. I don't know if it would be possible to straighten it. It would seem to me that it could cause braking problems if it isn't exactly straight.

Also the lower left corner of the axle housing is bent. Could this be reasonably straighten with no issues or do I need to start looking for a rear end swap?

I would go for a complete swap, might want to replace the rotted trailing arms too.

Rear End Swap Options

Thanks to everyone who responded previously!

I decided to swap out the rear end. I can't seem to find a used 939A in my area. Are there other axle numbers that are compatible that I should be looking for? Is one any better then the others?

I should also mention that I only use my Expy for towing my 22ft. boat, camping, and winter driving.
