Need Guidance

I'm new to truck restoration. Bought a 1986 ford f 150 xl. Needs alot of work. I have no clue how to fix trucks, never even changed oil. Growing up landscapping and mauel labor was more my dads thing. Anyhow, i got this truck want to turn it into a real solid truck to have fun in and bee reliable. But i got no clue where to start and when i pop the hood i got no clue what im looking at besides the very basics like engine, and ya know basics. My question is that is there any videos or books that will tell me exactly what im looking at when i pop the hood or roll under the truck. Is there any instructional video or book that will teach me to repair and restore trucks and give me a few tips I'm lost and need to get started wwant to have it done before next winter. Any Advice would be appreciated greatly

And even though this may sound childish, watch videos on YouTube or something! A great deal of knowledge can be obtained just by watching others. That's how I learned, grew up in a garage. Learned by watching others.

helpful hints

first thing take off that hood , depending on how deep your going . body panels are the first to go . take it step by step and keep your parts organized (together from same parts) it might be awhile until you put them back on . labling works great and be patient lots of rusted parts.read your books and get on here alot these guys are great.enjoy your truck like your dad did and have a great day

If you add your location in the upper right corner there may be some folks from here close to you that would be willing to lend a hand and some guidance. Welcome and good luck.

Yes, go HERE to do that... what you enter in the Location field in the 3rd pane will show up on the top RH corner of your posts.
