Knock when turning/drag link

Started hearing a knock when turning today. I took off the pass. side tire to check for anything loose. I could twist the tie rod with minimal effort and noticed that the two pieces were hitting between the pitman arm and where the two sides join. Im not too sure how to describe the location and it's too dark to get a good pic. My truck is a 99 F250 V10 with 142k. It has a two part tie rod/steering linkage, and at the joint at the pitman arm, the rubber sleeve is shot. My questions are does this sound like it would cauce the knock on turning, do you guys have any other thoughts, how easy is it to replace this joint (if I need to), and should I replace all the joints in the linkage (both ends, at the pitman arm, and where the two rods meet). Thanks for the help and I will try to get pics tomorrow.

Is your truck 4WD?

Sounds to me like the rubber boot at the pitman arm is toast. The boot being torn won't cause the noise by itself, but it's a sign that the balljoint underneath may be bad, and this could cause some noise while turning the wheel. If you are 4WD see below for part numbers:

Unfortunately not 4WD. Thanks for the link, I could probably find the 2wd parts from there if they are even different. Any idea how easy/quick this replacement would be? Thanks again.

If that's all it is you should be fine, it would take about a half hour. You'll need a tie rod/balljoint separator and some basic hand tools. Let me know if you'd like and I can post up some more detailed instructions.
