Ok, after doing alot of stuff to my truck (the stuff mentioned in my sig) I now have a check engine light. Now, when I first started my truck after doing all the stuff, "TDB or TBD Failed" flashed and never showed again cause right as that came up, the truck fired up. However, after driving the truck for a day or so, the check engine light came on, not the wrench by the other one. I have a scangaugeII but when I click scan, and then codes, nothing comes up. When I click the other button to the right, they have PID00 come up first and then if you keep scrolling a bunch more come up and stops at PID20. I think my batteries are weak, would this have anything to do with it? And how do I go about reading the code? Just to help eliminate some of the suggestions, I have my EGR plugged in along with the fan.
You might cruise by autozone or oreilys and have them pull the codes for you.
they can do that for you? didnt know thanks alot. im sure the scangauge 2 can tell me, but I dont know how to use it to tell me such lol. I was hoping it was low on coolant or oil since I knew it was low, but no luck lol.
The SGII in my opinion is not that good for reading codes.
For example it won't clear the error that I got with the fuel
level sender. I had to get out my Snap-on brick and that did clear it.
I have sense sold the brick and now have the newer Snap-on Solus
that does a much better job. If you lived near by I would come on over and
I'll clear it for you.
Thanks. I ended up going to Oriely and they said it was the EGR code so she got the symbol to go away for me. Now I just need to figure out this danm parking sensor and chime. Thing drives me crazy. Even if its unplugged it, the chime is there. Sensor evidently still works because I used it when doing the high idle and it never failed. Sucks is, if I need to take a long trip, I cant use my cruise cause it dosent allow the cruise to work while the light is illuminated. If the light isnt illuminated, then the cruise works, but as soon as the light comes back on, the cruise is turned off.
If I understand it right the newer strategy in an 06 will also
look for a temp change to make sure that the EGR is not blocked off.
So even if the valve is in place and plugged in it will still get a CEL.
If that is the case you have no choice but to tune it. The error was called insufficient EGR flow. So if you go back and have them read it
again please post the code number.
OK. To clarify. Everything is is plugged in. The EGR Valve is in place and plugged in. However, I have NO EGR cooler, I have done the EGR delete. I can go back to O'Riely and get the code and post it. I wondered to myself today, how in the hell does the truck know that I have no EGR in place since I have the EGR Valve plugged in and there were no sensors on the EGR Cooler. But since now I know that the 06 reads temps and goes from there, I guess now I know. Now if only I can get that DANM parking brake chime to stop, Id be a very happy camper.
Look around the parking brake assembly and the switch has for some
reason been grounded. The wire to the brake is hot and the switch makes
contact with ground to activate the alert. Find where it's grounding at and
you will have the fix.
I just went out and took this photo to show you where to look
The switch is right over the top edge of the brake assembly.

P.S. My brake was on so the switch is open.
Yeah that is the sensor that I have removed. So thats what I need to do is trace down the green wire that they added to the ground/negative wire when the added the DVD system. I hope this fixes my problem. It's soooooo ANNOYING to listen to the thing chiming at you the whole time you drive.
AH! You have an aftermarket DVD system! That green wire tells the DVD player when you have the parking brake applied, as it is not supposed to play DVDs/video while the vehicle is in motion. It is very probable that the dvd player is somehow triggering the parking brake chime. If you remove the green wire from the brake sensor wire, that should make the chime stop, but you won't be able to play dvds. You can however run the green wire to a switch, which then goes to ground. Then when you flip the switch, the DVD player will think you have the parking brake applied.... :-)

Gotcha. Yeah, the previous owner had a DVD player. He took it out when he traded the truck in.
