So I'm just screwing around and I'm at the point with my truck where all I need are a few small things here and there. The Muffler being one of those small not so important things. And yeah I could just buy a summit muffler for 20 bucks and be done with it, but I figured I'd have some fun and make my own. I'm using 3" pipe and have made a rectangular body for the muffler. The pipe is just a straight shot straight through, much like a glass pack would be, but instead of having the dimples that stick into the pipe like a regular glass pack i just drilled a ***t ton of holes. I think it was like 120 holes or something, surprisingly it didn't take too long to make the holes. I just center punched where I wanted them, made a pilot hole with a small sharp drill bit and made them bigger with a bigger bit. So now I'm wondering, should I put some kind of steel wool or mesh inside the chamber or just leave the chamber empty and finish welding everything up?
dont use steel wool, go to a honda/yamaha/suzuki dealer and get one or two silencer packing mats. they are designed to do exactly what you are doing. you want to get a 4 stroke kit, as those are larger mats. 2 stroke mats will be the same material but smaller dimensions. you can also buy them online: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...FQSg4AodyRYAnQ FMF Silencer Packing - 4-Stroke | MotoSport
if the holes you drilled are larger than 1/8", you will want to get some stainless steel screen to initially wrap the pipe in, it will help keep the fiberglass from blowing out prematurely.
post some pics! you are essentially building a dynomax racing bullet, so it will sound aggressive!
