2wd to 4wd on an OBS truck
let's just say for a minute that a certain someone wants to put a D60 under the front of their truck.
i know that you need the 4x4 trans(auto in my case) b/c you need to swap out the tail housing and the output shaft on the trans, obviously the axle, springs, ect. from a short bit of research it seems that an RSK kit is pretty much a straight bold on deal for the front of the 2wd frame. From the sounds of it the PMF RSK kit is one of the better ones to go with.
First off, does anybody have any links to 2wd-4wd on an OBS truck? i have seen the recent thread for a slant nose truck but the front of the frame are different. i have also seen a guy do a D50 ttb into his 2wd truck, but since he used the ttb he couldn't use the rsk therefore is different from what i need. ttb to D60 swaps don't help me much since that is a simple bolt in deal not an entire conversion.
Is it true that the RSK kit is a simple bolt on to the front of the frame?
How many holes need to be drilled in the frame for the rear hangers/shackles, if any?
Any help would be great!

i have one suggestion and then i'll leave ya alone lol.run her 2wd and enjoy it for what it is.meanwhile rather than invest anymore time and money, start tucking away the $ for that 4wd whistling turboed 6.0l truck that you really want instead.the sooner you start saving, the sooner it becomes a reality.

Eric,
I'm with Ford on this one, except for the 6.0 thing, I know you like them, but I've seen too many $4000.00 repair bills to take a chance on one. As you know, I just picked up the 90 F350 for a little more than the price of a D60 and RSK, and even though I have a lot of work to do making it how I want it, I will end up with an extra trans, block, trans case, and all the other parts that a donor truck gives you, with no redneck engineering required. Start socking your money away, and buy yourself a 4X4.
Mac.

yeah i know what you guys mean and trust me i would much rather have a 4x4 six than have this truck 4x4. although by the time i can even start to think seriously about a 6.0l they will be dinosaurs lol.
keep talking to me like this. i am almost convinced to keep it 2wd lol. This was all my dad's idea btw lol. for some really odd reason he is dead serious about this. i'd rather just save the time/money/effort and buy some new projector HID head lights seeing as how my stock lights are on the verge of dangerously dim.

Eric, my advice would be to have a goal, and shoot for it. If you want to keep this truck at least for awhile, then do it, its at worst a learning experience like the rest of it has been.... If you put a D60 in it, the resale will be much higher than if you were to leave it 2wd, so when you do go to sell it, you will already have more of a head start.
On the otherhand, converting a 2wd truck isnt nearly as easy as doing a D60 swap on a D50 truck... So just be ready if you do.

the frame is diffrent, I would have to hack into it to put in leaf springs. I think, I haven't got out the tape meauser yet. That the radius arms will bolt on to the indpenadnt front four wheel drive axle, if they don't I was going to use a f150 raduius arms. They all look the same everything should bolt in.

the only hacking of the frame that is needed would be boxing in the frame rails at the front and drilling some holes on each side for the rear hangers.
If you went with the RSK then you would just box the front in and then bolt the RSK to the frame like you would a truck that was 4x4, then just drill the holes.
