460 air conditioning
There's a local guy with a 460 in his 79 f150, pretty rust free unit he's selling for $1200, looks solid but it appears primered so no telling what's been hidden.. I can see the air vents on the interior so I know it had air at some point.

What I don't know is if the factory 460's factory air was the same for all the engines or made for that engine.
Basically I was thinking of flipping this truck and stealing the ac innards as far as vents and brackets and trying to transplant it into my truck.
Seems like everyone I talk to with a dent has a 460 in their truck but most of em didn't come with 460's right? So the chances of this having anything useable as far as air goes are pretty slim?
I'll take pics of my existing parts and the inside of his truck and post when I get back. Probably just chasing my tail but if this thing appears to be a good rust free runner it should be a fairly low gamble.
1) Factory installed integral A/C combined with the heater. The A/C controls are located in the same panel as the heater controls.
2) Deluxe dealer installed A/C combined with the heater. Two A/C switches located in HUGE dash bezel that sweeps across the entire right side of the dash, covering up the glovebox.
Separate "hang-on" glovebox bolts to the bottom of the dash.
3) Economy dealer installed A/C not combined with the heater. Two A/C switches located in panel that also contains two A/C registers. Panel fits into dash to the left of the glovebox.

No 460 came with a manual transmission until 1983 = NONE! And then in F250/350's only. 1979 last year 460 available in F150's, 1976 for F100's.
Seller posted VIN: F15HPDC1380 / F15 = F150 2WD Pickup / H = 351M / P = Twin Cities MN Assembly Plant / DC1380 = 1979.
Seller either clueless, can't tell a 351M from a 460, or failed to disclose the fact that the engine has been swapped.

460: 1968/78 Lincoln/Continental Marks / 1972/76 Thunderbird / 1973/78 misc. Ford/Merc Passenger Cars / 1973/76 F100 / 1973/79 F250/350 / 1975/79 F150 / 1975/97 E250/350 / 1983/97 F250/350.

Ok, so this interior had one of these.
Now is my assumption correct? Did they use the same vents for both air and heat. I'm guessing yes.

I'll post up pics for deluxe and economy for both interior cab and engine when I see them, if you have these pictures please post them. My guess is this unit does not share vents, seperately goes into the cab?
3) Economy dealer installed A/C not combined with the heater. Two A/C switches located in panel that also contains two A/C registers. Panel fits into dash to the left of the glovebox.
If you have pictures of this, please post.
I'd guess these have different vents too?
Thanks for the response. This truck didn't have any ac parts that I could tell, here's the link to the truck itself though. Looks like a junkyard patch work but the engine definitely had something broken inside, whoever buys this thing would be doing it for the body alone. I got under it and it's not bad, looks like someone undercoated it and the undercoat was coming off but that light bluish paint was under neath it so hard to tell the condition of the bed. Looked good up top.

Just spotted something in the dropbox link, looked like a switch was dangling down that could have been the economy switch. Like I said, I think this truck is pretty mixed on the parts.
Thanks for the response Bill may the magic underwear wearers knock on your door. One more question. Are the compressor units and the refrigerant radiator pretty universal, would guess maybe on the first two but not the option 3?
Impossible for me to post pics. AK FORD GUY, mikeo0o0o0, jermafenser and etc using 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog on a CD, available from hipoparts.com - scanned from 1979 edition.
I'm using the original catalog on microfiche. Why? Because it's the final 10/88 issue, so it's been updated. I also have 1978/79/81/86 editions on fiche.
Factory A/C/Heater vents same. Factory A/C parts different from dealer A/C parts. Deluxe A/C parts different from Economy A/C parts.
Many of the factory A/C engine mount/drive parts, compressor same as 1973/78 Passenger Cars.
"Refridgerant radiator" = Evaporator core specific to Factory, or Deluxe or Economy A/C. Not the same as Passenger Cars with factory or dealer A/C.
Hopefully more people can post some pics and possibly part numbers. There are people who know and those like me who have no clue. I could probably more easily figure it out so if we get some more people posting configurations here maybe it'll make it easier on the next guy who bought a truck without ac who has to have it.
