Currently have an 82 4.9L with an exhaust manifold that looks like swiss cheese. Have the opportunity to get another one except the provision for the smog tube on the replacement is one the bottom, not on the side of the manifold like the original. Question 1: Is there and adapter tube that would allow me to use the newer manifold? Or Question 2: What if I just removed the smog tube and plugged the holes? Would that have a negative affect on the performance (what little there is anyway)? Thanks. Any help with this or where I could get a direct replacement for less than the cost of a new car would really help.

 

just out if curiosity, if its shot, then why not upgrade to a set of EFI manifolds to get some better performance? should be pretty cheap from the local junkyard. they flow almost as well as a header, and still have all the emissions ports on em. just an idea.

but yes, you could kill the entire smog system and plug the holes, but if you live in an area where they test emissions, youre toast. or just buy a piece of tubing and run it to the "new" bung.
