6.0 Excursion eot & ect temps.

Today driving down the highway I noticed on my edge insight cs that my coolant temp. was at about 170-176 while my oil temp. was between 188-191
is this something to have a concern about because I heard if they are 15 degrees apart you may have head gasket problems. However on backroads and non-highway driving the ect and eot stay about 10 apart. Any suggestions?

Let the X sit over night for a cold soak, and check both temps before starting.

Should be withen a few degrees of each other and withen a few degrees of the outside air temp.

If that checks out good then I would install a new thermostat.

Your coolant temps should be at 190 when at operating temp.

Do this^^^^ for shure

Also need a new thermostat your running Cold I bet your MPG is Down because of it

If you have a ECT vs EOT spread more than 15* that normaly means Oil Cooler needs replaced BUT sometimes could be front cover/water pump issue

Do the recomended cold soak test and install new thermostat and lets see where you stand at that point

BTW OEM (FORD) thermostats are the best and last the longest

Iv tried a few diffrent brands and the Aftermarket ones always run Cold after a Summer going into winter there spring gets stretched in summer so FORD thermostat is the only way to go IMO

How difficult is it to change the thermostat and what does it usually cost to do?

Cost is prolly $30 for a new t-stat, as far as changing it out, I don't know if the Ex motors have the EPB sensor bracket on the t-stat housing, if they do it's an hour job just because you're forced to remove more parts. Not hard, just some junk in the way that needs clearing out. If your motor doesn't have a bracket on the t-stat housing it takes longer to watch the coolant drain than it does to change out the parts, two bolts one hose clamp and out it comes. Make sure the new t-stat comes with a new housing gasket.

when i did my t stat on my ex i had to remove one of the fuel lines going into the fuel filter housing. There was not enough clearance to move that ebp bracket around it. Easy job. You could always do the blue spring upgrade since you're right there anyways.

If you re-installed the spring type hose clamp keep an eye out for leakeage. I had to put a worm screw clamp on mine.
