Question Recommendations

New to forum. Been following for years. My truck is a 2002 F-350, CC, LWB, SRW, 4x4 with 258,000 miles. I ordered it from the factory. Truck is mechanically sound with a few small oil seeps. Use Rotella 15W-40 dino with changes about 7K. It is used as a DD and tows a 20' Exiss GN Stock Trailer. We raise, train and field trial English Pointers as a hobby.

Have just started with Mods. Upgrades include: Banks Ram Air Intake and Walker BTM. Have RiffRaff HPX and FRX to install when weather warms up. Looking for increased MPG and Towing Power. Priced out a replacement 2013 F-350 - More than 2x what i paid for the '02. Can't justify it!!

I plan to install a set of tunes, gauges and use some type of parameter monitoring system. I have been researching options and am looking for recommendations:

1. Gauges or Digital Monitors?
2. Tuner or Programmer?
3. AE / DP Infinity / SCT Livewire
4. All-in-one (Infinity or something similar) or Individual (Gauges/AE/Tuner)?

Thanks,
Jim

I think im about to ruffle a few feathers.. but here goes...

Tuner...
Get a real chip instead of a programmer that plugs into the obd2.
Php just released their new Hydra... total badassness right there.

Ae...
For the avg user... i dont feel the cost is justified.
A scangauge2 will take care of most functions the avg joe might need to monitor.
Ae is for going in deep. To use it effectively... go to Tugly's AE class.

Seperate gauges for egt at the very least...

The Infinity is a nice option, it's like having a AE onboard... but with a big S on its chest, complete with cape. It can't see fuel pressure or EGTs... so if I went this route, I'd suggest dual EGT gauges (left AND right manifolds) and a fuel pressure gauge (or add-on sensors) to augment the Infinity. I believe the Infinity uses Quarterhorse and I've heard tell TS tuners can write for Qurterhorse, so it would be as universal as it gets - but we really need DP to confirm this.

I'm like you: I wanted a nice truck and I have funds, but I learned the 7.3 has what I want - it just needed a few Buck$Zooka rounds to augment it. I'm here to tell you, tuning is nice... but nothing beats a new set of ACs (with tuning) for poking the beast with sticks and cooling those EGTs down. I only say this because I see your odo is quoting an air-freshener commercial - "This is a good place for a stick-up".

The Infinity will cover your need for gauges, tunes, and diagnostics. Let me know if you have any questions about it and I would be glad to help you out.

The Infinity can see anything the PCM can, so therefor you are correct in saying that it will not see EGT or fuel pressure in it's base form. However, it can support additional inputs with 0-5v reference. We have EGT probes/wiring, and fuel pressure sensors available that can be added to it.

The Quarterhorse can be connected to it, but as of right now Drew Tech has only licensed us to put our tunes on it. It is a possibility in the future that this may change and enable use to put other peoples tunes on it.
