I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this, If not could a Mod move it for me?
I have a 1983 Ford F100 300Ci Straight 6 I bought from a guy near me for 500 bucks. It appeared to be in decent running shape, until I started the drive home. I won't get into the specifics of this but I've replaced my Ignition, Alternator and Voltage Regulator. Last week I noticed my vehicle had 0 oil pressure while driving, but on idle I had about 10 psi. It lost power on any small incline or any distance of driving. I noticed an amazingly excessive amount of moisture in my oil. I got her towed home and took my head off. I cleaned and rebuilt the head and replaced my gaskets and did the obvious oil change. I tried to take the truck for a drive today to no avail . I made it about a mile and, 0 oil pressure and she died trying to get home. I have to have her towed home again . Based on the description of this, what do you think my problem is? I'm thinking my oil pump or pressure switch are out. But does anybody else have any ideas more viable than mine? Any help is much appreciated.
I see you are quoting oil pressure numbers. Does this mean you have a real aftermarket oil pressure gauge?
If you do, what else happens with this engine when you have 0 oil pressure. If you truly did have zero oil pressure, you should hear some knocking noises from the bottom end of the engine, and some ticking noises from the top of the engine. Do you have any of these? How dirty was the engine inside when you took it apart? How many miles does this engine have on it?
Engine has 157K on it. There was at least 1/8" of carbon covering my head and rockers. I hear some knocking from the bottom end and some ticking. I have an aftermarket gauge.
Sounds to me like the previous owner drove it for a while with the blown headgasket and the coolant has killed the bearings causing a lack of oil pressure. I would rebuild the engine if it were me or find a good relacement engine.
Yep, your motor is worn out buddy. It could be your oil pump has gone out as well. It's bad to drive it like it is, because it causes more damage to the motor.
My guesses are either bad oil pump, or wiped or spun bearings. If it's the oil pump, it'll need a new pump. But if it's bearings, you'll need to rebuild the motor.
Driving it with a bad oil pump will necessitate rebuilding the motor, as it's more or less running with no oil. And, there's no telling how much the motor has been run with no oil pressure by the PO.
