Lost drive 94´explorer

Hi everyone!

I found this forum, i think here is knowledge of a4ld trans?! BtW, i m from
far away land, called finland! So my english is not perfect.

Now the problem; I drowe yesterday a shop, Reversed my car in park.
after i done my shopping, getting in the car, fire it up, put gear in drive.
Nothing happens. All forward gears lost, reverse works perfectly!

So i towed the car at my parents home (it was near) And take the pan of.
Nothing there. Magnet at the bottom of oil pan was clean, nothing unusually.
oil dont smelled burned. Bands are ok, i test to tighten those and i feel it tighten after 2 rounds.

I didnt find O-ring anywhere when taking filter off. is it possible that the trans sucks air in there and not oil?
Then i started to take valvebody off, the bolts was pretty loose. I almost
didnt need a tool to take them off! The seal between metal plate and valvebody wasnt good, its like a thin hard plastic. it crushed when i take the plate off.

I check that any valves werent stuck, all moves and springs are ok.
Valvebody was clean, just pure, clean, red atf.
In my time, the car has always been slow to engagement all forward gears.
And when the oil gets hot, it takes longer to go into drive. reverse ok.

now im thinking that the valvebody hasnt been tightened enough, and warm oil goes easier there where it shouldnt go. Correct??

And if it does any matter i really drive pedal to the metal to the shop!
It was snowy and slippery and 4wd and... fun!

You have done your share of Work and must be a trained Mechanic? I was a Semi. LOL

We had a similar experience with a 1976 Ford C4 Trans (with less than 24,000 mi, one winter). We had reverse during the freezing weather but no forward. When the weather was above freezing, we could back out and peel the tires going forward. The diagnosis was bad seals in the Trans twice and fixed it twice (up to about 100,000 mi + before trading into 240 Volvos for years). With luck, the first job was warranty work. I heard the C6 was a stronger Trans but do not know if it would fit in the small Monarch. Good Luck!

That spring in the picture, is it on the right place? its in the trans side, not at the valve body. feels like it is wrong side of the metal plate? i havent found good pics anywhere wich i can found right places of all parts..

Edit; it is in the right place, i found another thread and there someone wrote that its like a filter

You will need the separator plate gasket as well, that's the bit that crumbled and is probably the source of all the problems. There should actually be two gaskets, one above and one below the plate. Hold them to the plate with grease or assembly lube so you can be sure it stays in the right spot.

now i get all done but still no forward gear. gear will engage if i get full rev
and not put in neutral or park. when i get engagement in forward it will works perfectly! manual switching also works. reverse works fine.

i take the line off the oil cooler and put the car run and oil will come with a huge pressure. can the servos side of the transmission do anything like this?

Well this morning i deside to take trans off. anyway i start the car and try to put it on forward gear, nothing happens. then i pull the vacuum modulator hose
off and try to put in gear, and it shifts into gear!

I take a drive and manually shifts ok but of course no second gear when driving d. then i put the hose back to modulator and no engagement.doesnt make sense that modulator had something to do with engagement?! I change the modulator and check the servos if theres anything wrong.
