Dana 60

I have a lead on a Dana 60 rear for my 49 F2. I havn't seen it yet but based on the tag number provided it looks like it came from a
1971-72 F-250 3/4 Ton HD 4x2 Pick-up - Full-Float
according to dana.com and a pdf they provide.

The HD has me concerned as there are non HD axles as well. Is this the correct axle for my 49? The numbers off the tag are:

D0TA-AS
603195-5 3.73

Thanks for any help!

I don't remember all the details but back about then or later Ford built some F250s with lighter three quarter floating rear ends. A full float is easy to ID with the big hub sticking outside the wheels.

And welcome to the forum.

The only LD 3/4 pickup rear ends Ford used were in the late 80's and early 90's. They were semi float.

The HD refers to the front suspension. The LD used F-100/150 size brakes and the HD used the F-350 brakes.

Yes you want a full floater. The D0 means 1970 design. They also had semi floaters in 83 and 84 on Ford Diesels, had a friend take his truck back to the dealer when he popped the hub cap to find a semi floater behind it....Ford ended up replacing the axle assembly, said they did it when they were short on parts.
