I recently bought a single cab 90 f150 302, 8 inch lift 38 inch swappers... However the guy before me has hacked all efi wires and put a 600 cfm Holley carb on it that's when I naught the truck for cheap I have a low pressure fuel pump mounted and an in box fuel tank fuel system is fine I have by passed ignition system and truck runs but dies after aprox 30 seconds I guess my question is, what else needs to be done?? I have truck in time and I guess infant know what else to do
I will have to look at the truck and get back to you on that!! Yes I have all clear fuel lines and a see through filter inline before my pump for that purpose exactly , the pump is from auto parts store 30-40 psi I believe it constantly runs until you shut it off with a dash mounted switch, I'm not a big carb guy but I have recently put carb kit and filter in the carb, time for new jets? Possibly an intake rise? Idk the recommended carb size for the engine
Might be the whole problem is that my Manuel choke is missing!!?? Ha ha like I said no carb experience, but if the answer STOCK helps you on your previous question about the ignition box that's what it is, the truck lift &tires only cost me 400$ delivered due to re location of previous owner
5-7 PSI is optimal. Past that is too much. 30-40 psi is WAY WAY too much. 30-40 PSI is also not a low pressure pump. That's high pressure intended for EFI. If someone told you it was a low pressure pump, pull it out and throw it at them.
The fuel is likely blowing through the carburetor and flooding the motor.
It'd be a good idea to probably pull the carburetor off, clean it out, check the internals, and make sure everything is set right and nothing is bad/jammed/stuck. Then see if your 302 can take a mechanical fuel pump. Being EFI, I doubt it.
You'll want a low pressure electric pump with a fuel pressure regulator and an inline fuel filter between those and the tank, and an in-tank sending unit so your gas gauge can work.
Has it been converted to DSII? If not, there's another problem.
Yup that seems more like the psi for the pump!! I was reading other posts and must have gotten my numbers wrong but I'll check twice! I have the pump and filters the pump has been bolted to fire wall has two inline filter before it! No it has not that's the reason in on here is to trouble shoot I have not screwed with carbs much let alone a conversion I did not start! Sucks *** picking up in the middle of a project
I got a chance to read it all just got of work and finally back in MN, being as I'm I'm making this into yet another mud truck
(lots of water, slop, dirt,) what would be my best bets on a decently cheap ignition system
Get a regulator and a good fuel pressure gauge. Put it inline before it goes into the carb. Set pressure at about 7psi and let it eat. As it sits now, it may not be getting enough pressure to fill the bowls or the other extreme of too much and blowing past the float needle flooding the motor out.
