Texaco/Shell
I know of no Chevron's around, but I just saw their oil in Walmart.
We also have BP stations that at the pumps say Amaco fuels.
Who's who any more?
Texaco and Royal Dutch Shell formed a joint venture years ago to share refining and marketing in the US. This was called Equilon. Part of the deal to create ChevronTexaco was to get rid of Equilon, so Texaco stations are being converted to Shell. ChevronTexaco has decided not to market gasoline under the Texaco name in the Americas. Texaco will exist in Europe/Africa. Havoline is a very popular oil brand brand, so Havoline oil will continue to be sold here. Texaco and Chevron had actually been partners for decades in the Far East with a company called CalTex. Delo and Havoline will continue under the CalTex name in that part of the world
Since Shell no longer has any connection with Havoline, they just purchased Pennzoil/Quaker State to increase market share.
British Petroleum (BP) has also been on a buying spree. They merged with Amoco to form BP/Amoco, that is what you see on the East Coast. Here in the West, they own ARCO, but the BP name does not appear on the stations, just the refineries. They do market Aviation gasoline and jet fuel under the BP name. BP also owns Castrol.
To further confuse things, Unocal has not owned the Union 76 76 and Pure brands for years. That was sold to Tosco, which was merged into Phillips, which was just merged into Conoco, forming ConocoPhillips.
Whew!
Jim
