camshaft problems

after installing a magnum cam in my 351 windsor i had to use the 302 firing order to get it to run. still runs too warm and the lope is not what i expected out of the cam. due to the firing order problem i thought it was the wrong cam. but summit racing says the same cam is used for a 351 or 302. any suggestions?

It would help if you posted the specs of the cam you used. Without know them, I'd say the cam is too big for what you intent was.

Specs would help, but a 351W firing order is 13726548 not 15426378. believe you me, I had to fight with Comp Cams on this one. They sold me a 302 Cam with a winsor firing order... My engine just wouldn't run right

I had to tear apart the motor... All they gave me for my trouble was a hat

302 /351 cams are interchangeable as long as you wire the distributor for the correct firing order the cam is ground for. The only exception is with EFI, then you really need to get a cam with the correct firing order for the computer.If your 351 is running warm then I suspect the cam has nothing to do with that. Your timing could be retarded too much making it run hot. If the lope isn't what you expected, then what kind of lope does it have and what kind of lope did you want? Are you running a carb or EFI? Most cams made for 82-95 Mustang 5.0's are ground for a 351W firing order now since that's the firing order that's been used in them since 1982. Non Stang 5.0's use the older firing order for 302's
