I can kinda answer these, at least tell ya how it works in my state, yours may or may not be the same.

The sticker on the door is Fords rating and IS the legal limit no matter what your registration says. So no matter what, even if your registration said 26000 you still can only put the weight on the door sticker on the truck. Now of course this is just the legal limit.

The 10,000 on your registration is the weight you are paying for to use the roads. Here you pay by weight in 2000lb incriments. So why pay for any more then your GVWR. Here your registration must ALSO cover the weight of the trailer. So with 10,000 on the registration and 6000 in the truck you can tow 4000. Here the DMV unless you tell them otherwise will do 150% of scale weight and round up to the next incriment. So a truck weighing 6000lbs times 1.5 is 9000 and the next incriment up is 10000.

I just found a 1987 Ford pickup brochure. It does list a 6600lb GVWR F-250. My question is why? The payload is almost identical to an F-150 of the same configuration. The only visible difference is wheels and tires, 16x6 8-hole rims vs 15x6 5-hole rims, LT vs XL tires.

Is it a F250LD(Light duty) if so it won't have a full floating rear axle, that means no hub sticking out the center of the rear wheel?

This is exactly the reason why it is 6600 lbs. Want the 8600 (reg cab) / 8800 (ext cab) lb rating, then it is time for the HD 250 model, otherwise you have just a little more than a high rated F150
