Recommended maintenence question.

I am wondering if I can get a little advice on some general maintenence issues on my 2000 Ex, V10, 2x4,118,000 miles.
I am getting it ready for a summer full of boat hauling. I usually tow my boat around 6000 miles a year.

I just did brakes, pads, calipers etc. & the fuel filter. All stuff I can handle. The real messy stuff I will have done at the dealer.

Planning on bringing it to the dealer next week for the following items:
  • Transmission fluid flush (last change 30,000 miles)
  • Differential fuild change (same as above)
  • Coolant flush
  • Parking brake service (dust cover/hub is rotted out on one side)
  • Full brake bleeding (still abit spongy after my bleeding attempt)
What else should I be doing? Are the following items needed?
  • Wheel bearing service front and rear?
  • Is there such a thing as drive shaft service?
Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance

Big Al

I just went through this on mine. Only things I would suggest that you haven't listed would be serp. Belt, thermostat, spark plugs, coolant hoses, and battery check. Your rear wheel bearings are lubed by the diff oil, just check for seal leakage. Have the front tie rods, ball joints, and bearings checked. I also put a transmission gauge in hoping I can prevent problems. Only way I know how to check universal joints is to feel how they move with the shaft removed. If you live where they salt the roads they tend to seize. Hope this helps. Anthony

Pretty much you have it covered along with abranz's suggestions.

These are nice to have if you have the funds while you're getting the work done at the dealer. Not really necessary, but these are what I have in mind to do to mine:

1. Upgrade to the 6.0 transmission cooler when you have all the fluid drained.

2. Upgrade the differential cover to an aluminum cover.

Not sure what size boat you're hauling, but if heavy, then these are nice upgrades.
