Bought a 94 F-350 last week. Being only familiar with another auto maker, is there a good site to catch up on my Ford history and what not? Does anyone on here have an "older" model (1994)? I see a lot of posts for 2000's and up but not to many from there down. When did Ford change the body style? Any and all info you all can pass would be great. What am I getting into, known problems, etc. I've done some reading here and plan for more. Thanks in advance.
Ford made your style truck until 97. There is no 98 model year for f250 and f350. In 99 they came out with the superduties.
I used to have a 96. Pretty much the same as your 94. Overall they're great trucks. Some of the problems with them are the auto trannie and the auto locking hubs. Post a more detailed description of your truck and I'll tell you what's good and bad about it. 4x4 or 4x2, CC or standard cab, Auto or 5 spd, manual hubs or auto lockers?
Overall that's a great truck. The front differential is a Dana 60 which is about as strong as anything ever offered on a production pickup truck. The rear differential is a Ford "Sterling" 10.25 inch. The 10.25 is for the diameter of the ring gear. It is also very strong. Comparable to a Dana 70. The suspension is a tried and tested leaf spring design that's been around for longer than you and me put together. It doesn't have the best ride but it's a trouble free "Truck" type design. It will stand up to almost anything without problems, which cannot be said of the suspension of Ford's major rivals. It is still the same basic design on the new trucks as well.
The transmission is an "E4OD" if it has overdrive and a "C6" if it doesn't. I'm not sure if the c6 was still offered in 94 but I know Ford phased them out in the early-mid 90's.
The E4OD trannie is a little on the weak side but if taken care of it can last a long time especially with the 5.7. I had the same trans in my 96 Powerstroke and it didn't hold up well to the diesel and big tires. I would recommend having it serviced often.
Their WAS in fact a 1998 F-250. It was NOT in the "superduty" body though. It was in a F150 body. In 1998 their was no F-350, etc. because Ford was coming out with the "new" superdutys" in 1999.

The 1998 F250 you're talking about was the "light duty" F250. That basically became the 7700 GVWR package on the current F150. There were no "Heavy Duty" F250's available and no F350's for 1998.
My "early" '99 F350 PSD was built in June '98. Anyone know the major differences between mine and a '99.5??? Seems harder to get aftermarket items for the "early" model. Thanks for any input.
