Regen Question:

I am a new diesel owner... I have a 2010 F250SD King Ranch. The Truck now has 37,000 mile on it and I have owned it about 6 Months. I have read alot on here and learned alot from all of you from reading your other post and do appreciate it in advance!
My issue is when the display says its cleaning the exshaust the display stays up for a couple seconds they disappears. I understand it takes 10 min to 40 min on avaerage to clean. Is there a way to know if it is still cleaning or when it has completed the cycle? I am worried about all I have heard that if you shut it off during a cleaning cycle you can possibly lock up the turbo's?
By the way I love my truck and have put about %k miles on it and look forward to pulling my 30 Newmar Ameristar trailer with it. Any helpful hints or ideas would be appreciated Thanks Mike

Shutting it down while in the regen process will not lock up the turbos...but your EGTS are pretty high it is hard on everything. Plus then you have all that unburn't fuel leaking into your crankcase.

If you have the message center then you can hit the middle button, I think it is setup button. then hit reset, the top button and then it should cycle through the diagnostics and then the last message in the routine will indicate if it is cleaning or not.

My regens are usually about 10 miles in duration if that helps a little.

You can get a monitor to at least see that like scanguage II. Just plugs in the OBD port and then you can monitor that.

Congrats on your new truck! If you want to monitor your Regen and 14 other important temps. Get the Edge Evaluation. When you go into regen it will beep and keep you informed till it's done.

welcome to the 6.4. These are good enignes and good trucks if driven as intended. They like long drives and working hard better than jaunts to the grocery store.

I've owned mine long enough (new in May '07 and over 100,000 miles) that I can tell by feel and by watching the boost gauge when it's in regen. As you become familiar with yours, you'll likely be able to as well.

I don't pay attention to regen when I'm ready to shut the truck off. I just shut it off. Once you take it out of drive (automatic) the regen will abort. By the time you shut the switch off, the engine will have made enough revolutions to have blown the excess fuel out the exhaust. I've said this many times on this forum, but my oil samples have always come back sans fuel dilution. I change oil at 7500 miles using a high qulity oil.

My regens typically last from 10 to 20 minutes. I've never had one go more than 20.

Enjoy your truck!

Your not modifiying anything...only monitoring. Just unplug before taking it in for service.

So once it's unplugged there is no data on the trucks system that can be found ? I ask because I saw that it has 4 power levels ( settings )

Someone else who has that will have to chime in. I am not sure how it interfaces if you want to use the power settings.

Thanks everyone for the all the feedback! I really enjoy this site and all the help everyone is willing to give. I haven't had the truck but 6 months but am LOVING it! I can't wait for the long road trip towing the camper and know it will be a huge differance than towing with the gasser!

Prior to allowing my local Ford dealer to complete the computer mod that was required by a recall a year or two ago my display would tell me when Regen was beginning and would be displayed till complete. After the recall was completed this is now only displayed briefly when Regen begins and for an instant when it is completed. Think the intent of that computer mod was to keep the lengths of Regen from being monitored by the driver and make the driver less aware of the Regen process. Liked the Pre-recall mod much better.

You are correct...so now you need something like a scanguage II that you can just plug into the OBD port.

Monitoring your regens is important.
