oh geze......lol. I hated to ask a dumb question but I honestly thought is was some part of the door you were making reference to. Sorry I smoked you out on that one.
Stop by your local lumber yard and pick up a bundle of door/window wedges. They work great for setting your door, fender, and hood gaps. Just slip the wedge in and tape it at the gap you want, then you can concentrate on shimming everything to fit.
Cheaper and easier to use: pick up a handful of the free wood paint stir sticks at your favorite DIY store, They are about the perfect thickness 1/4". If they cheap out with thinner ones, tape two together. I usually use some scraps of 1/4" aluminum plate tho since I always have some in my scrap bucket.
