How do people with 1973/77's with A/T's get the backup lamps to work and prevent the truck from being started in any gear?

EZ swap not so EZ.

I don't have the original engine or trany in mine as it shows in my signature. Start and back up light switch are on the trany, so i just had to make the connections to the wiring for start and lights. It will not start in gear. Yeah ,original engine and trany may give a problem , but i never leave any of my trucks original. So it's still an easy change for me to do , but it may not be easy for others.__
