Somebody told me the solid one just had that flange pressed on and it can be removed showing spines under it. I don't know I have a couple but have never checked them out. My tilt column came from a 79 F-150 and had 3/4 x 36 spines on it and the gear box was the same, making it a easy bolt on project. 78 /79 Broncos will have the 3/4 x 36 spline shaft too I believe.
Looked at your sig, did you put tilt on a 73 f-100? If so do you know if steering box is the same for my 70 f-100 or which gear box you have. I'am guessing it's, would be nice if where more of a plug and play. Thanks.

Just did some research on napa and it looks like the gear box end on donor gear box and my truck are the same, 32 count spline by 3/4. Might be a direct plug and play!

Yes 73 F-100 with a 79 f- 150 tilt column , easy upgrade.
Checked for my 70 f-100 and the 80's column my tilt came from both the same. Can''t wait for the weekend so I can get the few parts I need to get this done.
Slowly getting some work done on tilt steering column. Wanted some thoughts advantages/disavantages on using a rag joint or a u joint for steering box connector.
1965/79 F100/250 2WD, 1967/79 F350 2WD all use rag joints (there's more than one) to connect the steering shaft to the input shaft of the steering gearbox.
1966/75 F100 4WD, 1967/75 F250 4WD have a multi-piece lower steering shaft & coupler assy. Uses a clamp and thru bolt to connect it to the input shaft of the steering gearbox.
1976/79 Bronco & F100/250 4WD, 1979 F350 4WD have a one piece lower steering shaft and coupler assy, no individual parts are available. Connects to the steering gearbox w/a rag joint (more than one).
Tilt wheel introduced in 1978 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline, available with 2WD & 4WD, A/T & 4 M/T. Not available with 3 M/T.
1978/79 T/S switch specific to tilt wheel (D8TZ-13341-A), which is operated by pressing the turn signal handle forward.
1965/77: NSS located on column / 1978/79: NSS located on transmission.
Mine plugged in ,wiring was the same, sounds like you have a newer column .[/QUOT
80's column on 70 f-100 completely different, guess I'll be staring at the wiring diagrams for a while. Thanks.
Same here. I haven't started the wiring yet. The in-dash ignition switch is gonna stay along with the key in the column to lock the wheel. Hope you'll post your progress.
The rag joint mount on the column side is permament(welded to column shaft). You would have to buy the joint with the correct shaft size, cut old piece off and have it welded on. Then connect the other side to the steering box.
