Hi all ... New to site and have a few questions . I have a 72 f250 that I am putting a 94 300 six into and was wondering what type of distrib to use? Auto trans 2 wheel drive daily driver . I am taking the block to the machine shop in the morning to have it bored 30 over and the crank polished, also putting a RV cam in it. Is there anything that i need to do? I am also putting a four barrel intake and carb on it.I have also found a predator carb for 150.00 that i was wondering if it would work.
You could use a 60's/early70's distributor if you're sticking with points, I'd recommend using a stock Ford Duraspark II system available from 1977-1983. It's not hard to wire in, it stands "alone" with just basic inputs to the control box, and it will use a vacuum line for the advance function. If you're scavenging for one, get the distributor, the control box, the harness between the dist and box, and save the two pin red/white connector. Cut off some extra wire with this pigtail so you can hard wire it into your truck.
I don't think the Predator would be a good choice. Their web site says it "..replaces 4 barrel.....from 600 to 900 CFM..."
Since a 390 or 500 CFM is plenty for the 300, I think you will be overcarbed and won't be happy with that Predator. Plus, there are no vacuum ports, so your vacuum advance connection won't be available.
For your exhaust, note the EFI 3-into-1 manifolds work pretty well according to those installing them.
Ya i did some more googling and the Predator is out . I found a 600cfm edlebrock that im going to get . I got the 3 into 2 factory exhaust with the motor and planed on keeping it on this motor. I will have to visit the local pick apart to see if i can dig up a Ford Duraspark, you say that i will need the control box also? I am also having a hard time picking out the cam setup any ideas on that? I tow a small camping trailer up some good hills and the 360 that is in the truck right now is junk in my book..
The control box for the unit you want has a blue plastic insulator where the wires come out. Youy want to stay between 1977 and 1983 to keep it easy. The control box is available at auto parts stores, they can also test a used unit to make sure it's good.
One more question... how much boost will the motor handle? i have a SC on the shelf and was thinking about putting it on. machining isn't a problem, i have a shop that I can use anytime.
i've known a guy who had one for years that ran six pounds and it was his daily driver. if your trying to make the six a high horsepower 1/4 mile killer than you will be unhappy. high torque stump pulling machine yeah easy but just not a high horsepower motor
Nope no 1/4 miler, just a daily driver and something to pull the hotdog cart around on the weekends.. Maybe the camper up in the mountains. But I want something that no one has around here, everyone has big 4x4's, mine is just a 2 wheeler 72 ford ....
i feel ya mines a tad newer though 92 and it isnt supercharged. that and its the only two tone blue f series i have seen. litterally! light blue on top and bottom and a dark blue stripe down the middle
