I was so happy thursday. I took a sick day to work on the truck and finally after a year got her started. Engine sounds strong, all the lights work( except a small issue but I will post another thread for that) I felt satisfied.
But this was with me feeding gas to the carb with a funnel. So I decided to drop the tanks and check them out today. Rusted out from the inside and all the lines well rotted. Just great. So what do I do from here guys... do I just go to summitracing.com and buy a new tank..... your advice is much appreciated.
If you have some cutting/welding skills you could just make your own supersize tanks out of some 55 Gallon oil drums like an old Army buddy of mine did. Measure how deep the space between the bottom of the frame and your bed is, lay your drums on their side, mark from the ground up and cut. Weld a flat piece of metal to the side you cut, cut out the holes for your sending unit, return lines etc. rinse it out and mount. Depending on how much you cut you could have anywhere from a 40 to 50 gallon fuel tank. Have fun at the pump with that!!!
Yes, all the local stores carry them. What does that tell you? They also carry ignition tumblers, parking brake cables, etc. for these trucks. Check out your sending units also, they like to go bad.
Yep everything was pretty much no use at all. But considering the price of two new tanks, lines, hoses, etc. I was wondering if I should just buy a bigger front tank and skip the rear tank but I soft of want to keep it the way it was supposed to be kept.
