hi everybody i am having an issue with a 1986 ford econoline van and when you turn the key to crank the engine over it cranks extra long but when you release the ignition switch it fires right up is that a problem with the ignition switch i think so any help would be great thank you
An '86 with a 302 and a carburetor should be a Motorcraft 2bbl with a TFI computer controlled ignition and carb, if memory serves as it should.
Long cranking times and it firing up after you let the switch go makes me think that your timing is off. It could also be your choke isn't functioning correctly or problems with other components on the motor, etc.
Best thing to do is pull codes from the computer and see what it says is going on.
